Texas falls on the road to Washington, 4-3

Despite winning the doubles points and picking up two singles wins, the Texas men’s tennis team fell to Washington 4-3 in Seattle on Sunday.

In doubles play, the Longhorns took home two wins at the first and second doubles positions. Senior Michael Riechmann and sophomore Adrian Ortiz teamed up to edge Washington freshman duo Piers Foley and Enzo Sommer 6-4. Texas junior George Goldhoff and freshman Julian Zlobinsky won 6-2, beating sophomore Jake Douglas and junior Wendell Watanabe. Texas freshmen Colin Markes and Harrison Scott’s match against Husky freshman Kawika Lam and sophomore Mitch Stewart in third doubles was suspended.

In singles play, Ortiz defeated Douglas 7-6, 7-5 in third singles, and Zlobinsky beat Foley 7-5, 6-4 in sixth singles. Despite the strong Texas showings, Washington took home the win after defeating Texas in the first, second, fourth and fifth singles positions.

Texas returns to action next Saturday at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event at UT’s Weller Indoor Tennis Center.
